Kanematsu Corporation (Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Masayuki Shimojima; hereinafter “Kanematsu”) announces the establishment of PT. Kanemory Food Service, a joint venture company that will run a central food production kitchen along with PT. Kanematsu Trading Indonesia (“KTI”), a local subsidiary of Kanematsu in Indonesia, and PT. Macroprima Panganutama (“MP”), one of the Cimory Group’s core companies in Indonesia, in response to the growth of the food services sector in the Republic of Indonesia.

The new company, which will provide R&D as well as products to businesses in the food services sector such as restaurants, convenience stores, and supermarkets, will have a central kitchen for production and will supply various kinds of products. As Halal*-compatible foods are required for religious reasons and due to market characteristics, the new company will consist of a food-processing plant compatible with MUI Halal.** It will be established in December 2012, and plans to start producing and supplying products in the second half of 2013.
*“Halal” refers to items and processes that are permitted by Islamic law, and halal-certified foods are those that Muslims are permitted to eat.
**MUI Halal is a halal certification provided by the Indonesian Council of Ulama (Majelis Ulama Indonesia) in accordance with Islamic law.

In the Republic of Indonesia, which has a population of more than 240 million people, middle-class Muslim consumers are growing particularly rapidly, and traditional Indonesian dietary habits are changing toward “foods to enjoy.” In response to this change and diversity, businesses such as restaurants, convenience stores, and supermarkets are expanding.
The new company will sequentially develop, manufacture, and supply products including fast foods, deli and prepared foods, lunch boxes, and sweets to the food services sector.
Through this new company Kanematsu will create a business platform for food services in Indonesia, leveraging its R&D expertise and central kitchen-type production capabilities for manufacturing various kinds of foods at the same time, which the company has been fostering in the food services sector in Japan. Furthermore, because MP belongs to the Cimory Group, which operates the processing business of milk, eggs, soybeans, and meat, and the restaurant business, with both businesses MUI Halal-compatible in the Republic of Indonesia with a track record of supplying halal products to the food services sector for more than 20 years, it will take advantage of the Cimory Group’s know-how in supplying raw materials for halal products.

Kanematsu will focus on further developing the food services sector in Indonesia, making use of the human network it has been cultivating in Indonesia for many years and the expertise it has acquired, such as food processing know-how and product provision.
