Kanematsu Corporation (“Kanematsu”) has entered into a strategic agreement for the Japanese market with FOSSA Systems, S.L. (“FOSSA”), a Spain-based space startup. Under this agreement, Kanematsu will deploy in Japan FOSSA’s ultra-small satellite constellation and related communications technologies and will proactively promote solution proposals to government agencies – including the Ministry of Defense – and related industries, particularly in the defense and space fields.
FOSSA’s ultra-small satellite
FOSSA is a manufacturer of ultra-small satellites that offers it, related ground equipment, and operation systems as an integrated solution. Customers that purchase the solution are able to operate it independently as part of their own infrastructure. The key strengths of FOSSA’s products lie in their ability to provide low-cost, high-frequency data acquisition and communications using a constellation of numerous ultra-small satellites. They are expected to be applied in a wide range of use cases, including:
- Secure communications and signals intelligence (SIGINT) in the defense and security fields
- Supplementing wide-area communications infrastructure in remote, maritime, and mountainous regions
- IoT and remote monitoring in industrial sectors such as logistics, energy, and infrastructure monitoring
FOSSA is also planning to establish a new office in Shinagawa, Tokyo, and will leverage its presence in Japan as a base for expanding its business across the broader Asia-Pacific region.
